We first met as teenagers and, after crossing paths over the years, reconnected later in life. Our relationship deepened through long-distance visits, frequent phone calls, and countless drives—efforts that proved wholly worthwhile. Though Penny and Mary Claire are different in many small ways—Penny favors bibs and mismatched socks while Mary Claire coordinates accessories down to her watchband, phone case, and Yeti—those differences complement rather than divide us. Our commitment to one another and to the family we have built is profound; we strive every day to bring our best selves to each other and to our boys.
